- I've been using a Penril Alliance for two weeks, and I would say it is
- batting within the range of 95-100%. On a rare occasion the handshake
- starts off bad and goes nowhere; it clearly "sounds" wrong as well. Can't
- say whether it's my end, my ISP's end, or the teleco "clowd"(it's probably
- the latter). About 5% of the successful connections start out "shaky"(ie,
- above average number of Hxx codes are displayed), but eventually resolve
- into a successful connection. Yes, occasionally it drops a line, but this
- seems only to happen when I have another point-to-point(ppp1) session
- running on a second line; so it is probably a configuration issue I need
- time and experience to figure out. Half of the time it starts at 24.0, and
- half of this ultimately ramps up to 26.4 within a couple of minutes.
-
- I have done next to nothing(adjusted only two settings) to get my v.34 up
- and running. When I get past some of my other priorities, I plan to explore
- all the features this gem has to offer. I have long learned that better
- things cannot be acquired only with money; they also require some investment
- in time and patience. Years back I went throught the same paces with a
- Telebit; I learned a lot, and never regretted the effort.
-
- Hang in there!
